Feliz Navidad 2025

Felices fiestas. Las Navidades siempre las he dividido en 3 tramos. Por un lado Nochebuena y Navidad, por otro Nochevieja y Año Nuevo, y para finalizar los Reyes. Hoy es 25 de Diciembre, así que estamos en el primer tramo, y espero que estéis disfrutado de estos días. El lunes pasado fue la lotería, así que he aprovechado un dibujo que tenía de hace unos años, esperando que no os haya pasado como al protagonista del mismo.

Merry Christmas! I've always divided Christmas into three parts: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, and finally, Three Kings' Day. Today is December 25th, so we're in the first part, and I hope you're enjoying these days. Last Monday was the lottery draw, so I've used a drawing I had from a few years ago, hoping you haven't had the same experience as the character in it.

Estudiando alemán

Como ya os había comentado en algún otro post, me ha dado por estudiar alemán. Creo que mantener la cabeza activa para que no pare de pensar y aprender es muy importante, y más a ciertas edades. En clase soy el abuelo cebolletas, pero lo asumo y lo disfruto. La ventaja de tener una edad, es que la vergüenza ya la hemos agotado, y disfrutamos el doble.

As I mentioned in another post, I've taken up studying German. I think keeping my mind active so I never stop thinking and learning is very important, especially at a certain age. In class, I'm the old fogey, but I accept it and enjoy it. The advantage of being older is that we've already exhausted our inhibitions, and we enjoy it twice as much.

Estudiando literatura II

Hoy estudiamos Literatura. Saber hablar, expresarse, leer con fluidez son materias imprescindibles para enfrentarnos a la vida diaria, personal y profesional. Nadie nos va a preguntar quién es Cervantes o Unamuno, aunque no esté de menos saberlo, pero haber leído sus libros, siempre ayudará. No voy a dármelas de culto por haberme leído  los clásicos. Soy lector pero de todo un poco, aunque tengo que decir que también me he leído el Quijote, uno de los libros más vendidos, y probablemente menos leídos, al menos leídos en su totalidad, aunque esto es una opinión personal. Ahora que se acaba el año, podemos hacernos el propósito de leer más, aunque más vale leer uno, que proponernos leer dos, o como decía Cervantes en el Quijote, "Más vale un toma que dos te daré"

Today we studied Literature. Knowing how to speak, express ourselves, and read fluently are essential skills for navigating daily life, both personal and professional. No one's going to ask us who Cervantes or Unamuno are, although it wouldn't hurt to know, but having read their books will always help. I'm not going to pretend to be cultured for having read the classics. I'm a reader, but of a little bit of everything, although I have to say that I've also read Don Quixote, one of the best-selling books, and probably one of the least read, at least in its entirety, although this is just my personal opinion. Now that the year is ending, we can make a resolution to read more, although it's better to read one book than to aim for two, or as Cervantes said in Don Quixote, "Más vale un toma que dos te daré (A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush)"

Black Friday

 

Ya estamos en el Black Friday, y me he acordado de este dibujo del 2014. Uno nota que se hace mayor, cuando tiene dibujos antiguos, que siguen reflejando la actualidad. Dibujos atemporales, que dentro de 20 años, seguirán estando en las noticias. En fin, siempre ha habido quién maneja sobres con dinero black, y el resto, que ven el futuro cada vez más black.

Black Friday is here, and it reminded me of this cartoon from 2014. You know you're getting old when you have old drawings that still reflect current events. Timeless drawings that will still be in the news 20 years from now. Anyway, there have always been those who handle envelopes of "black" money, and the rest of us who see the future getting more "black"

Estudiando Inglés

Hoy estudiamos Inglés. A pesar de que la IA cada vez nos facilita más el intercambio lingüístico, no está de más saber algo de inglés o de otros idiomas. Si nos gusta viajar y nos movemos por zonas donde no haya cobertura, si no sabemos algo de inglés podemos quedarnos incomunicados. Además el aprendizaje de idiomas, según he leído en algunos artículos, ayuda a que el cerebro siga trabajando y no se estanque, al fin y al cabo no deja de ser un músculo que tenemos que ejercitar. En mi caso, y a poco más de un mes para pasar a mejor vida, la del jubilado, me ha dado por aprender alemán, así que me he apuntado a la Escuela Oficial de Idiomas, aunque en clase sea el abuelo cebolletas.

Today we're studying English. Even though AI is making language exchange easier, it's still useful to know some English or other languages. If we like to travel and go to areas without cell service, we can be left completely cut off if we don't know some English. Besides, learning languages, as I've read in some articles, helps keep the brain active and prevents it from stagnating; after all, it's a muscle we need to exercise. In my case, with just over a month until retirement, I've decided to learn German, so I've enrolled in the Official Language School, even though I'm the oldest in the class.

Hoy estudiamos medicina. Una profesión ciertamente maltratada, pero imprescindible. Una profesión de la que mucha gente se queja, pero sin la que no podrían vivir. Este dibujo es un reconocimiento a todos los profesionales de la medicina y de la enfermería, por cuidar de nuestra salud.

Hoy estudiamos informática. Un homenaje a las personas, que como yo, nos dedicamos a complicar la vida de los usuarios, pero de algo hay que vivir. Es un escalón menos que la profesión de los políticos, que están para vivir a nuestra costa. Quizás los informáticos seamos rémoras, pero los políticos son directamente parásitos.

Today we're studying computer science. A tribute to those of us who, like me, dedicate ourselves to complicating users' lives, but we have to make a living somehow. It's one step below the profession of politicians, who are there to live off us. Perhaps computer scientists are a burden, but politicians are downright parasites.
