Día del libro 2014

Hoy celebramos el día del libro, como tributo a dos grandes de las letras que murieron en las mismas fechas del mismo año 1616, Cervantes y Shakespeare. Uno murió el día 22 de Abril y otro el 23.

A veces me pregunto si los libros son como los documentales de la tele. Algo que todo el mundo dice que lee / ve, pero que en realidad ni lo uno ni lo otro.

Está claro que para las personas que trabajamos en el mundo de las TI, los idiomas, sobre todo el Inglés, son importantes. Otra cosa diferente es hablarlo bien y entenderlo.

Ayer repasando Inglés con mi hija, se me ocurrió este pequeño ejercicio. Si eres capaz de solucionarlo, es que tu nivel de Inglés es como el mío, un desastre.

Proyecto SEPA

La semana pasada hablábamos del código IBAN, así que hoy vamos a hablar del proyecto SEPA (Single Euro Payment Area).

La idea es que cualquier ciudadano europeo pueda pagar en Euros en cualquier páis de la eurozona, con las mismas condiciones y bajo unas reglas comunes y estándares.

Un proyecto que ha sufrido algunos retrasos, pero que se ha puesto en marcha en Febrero, en una primera fase.

Last week we talked about the IBAN code, so today let's talk about SEPA project (Single Euro Payment Area).

The idea is that any European citizen can pay with Euros in any country in the eurozone, with the same conditions and with common rules and standards.

A project that has suffered some delays, but has been launched in February, in a first phase.

Homenaje a Adolfo Suárez

Hoy nos deja el primer presidente de la democracia de España. Alguien que tuvo que ceder, probablemente más de lo que le hubiera gustado, para conseguir tener una transición, que nos ha permitido llegar hasta donde estamos hoy.

Por mi parte siempre recordaré aquel 23-F, donde sólo tres personas mantuvieron el tipo, mientras los demás se escondían tras sus escaños. El último de esos tres personajes que quedaba con vida.

Sirva este pequeño dibujo, como un homenaje a esta gran persona.

Today we say good bye to our first President of Spain's democracy. Someone who had to give, probably more than he would have liked to get to have a transition that has allowed us to get where we are today.

 
I will always remind that 23-F, where only three people remained the type, while the other were hidden behind their seats. The last of those three characters that was alive.

Código IBAN

Este año, nos hemos ido acostumbrando a ese nuevo código llamado IBAN (International Bank Account Number), y que ha sustituido a nuestro número de cuenta de toda la vida. Bueno en realidad lo que han hecho es añadir unos dígitos adicionales por delante de nuestra cuenta.

Al parecer es necesario para realizar cualquier tipo de transferencia, pago o cobro, y está pensado para que pueda ser utilizado en toda la Unión Europea. Esto es realmente útil, porque para cualquier ciudadano de a pie, acostumbrado a trabajar con cuentas bancarias en múltiples países, este nuevo código le va a facilitar la vida.

This year, we have known this new code called IBAN (International Bank Account Number), that has replaced our old account number. Well actually,  what they have done is add a few extra digits ahead of our own.

Apparently it is necessary for any kind of transfer, payment or whatever, and is designed so that it can be used throughout the European Union. This is really useful, because for any ordinary citizen, accustomed to working with bank accounts in multiple countries, this new code is going to make life easier.

Hoy termino con la serie de BYOD, y quería hacer un homenaje a los pioneros de este acrónimo, que en sus inicios nada tenía que ver con la tecnología. 

En los años 70, se utilizaba este término, y otros similares, en las fiestas entre amigos (Bring Your Own Drink), para que cada uno aportase algo de beber. Parece ser que el término empezó a utilizarse en Australia.

Today I am going to finish with BYOD series, and I wanted to remind the pioneers of this acronym, which initially had nothing to do with technology.

In the 70s, this term was used, and others similar, at parties with friends (Bring Your Own Drink), so that each one camen with a drink. It seems that the term was first used in Australia.
