This week, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that if mobilization against the Government—that is, against themselves—becomes necessary, they will mobilize. This remark came in the wake of the new protest camp in Puerta del Sol demanding the right to decent housing. Frankly, they never cease to amaze me; after all, who demonstrates against themselves? You’d have to be a fool. Housing is a highly complex issue—one I wouldn't presume to discuss in depth, despite having my own opinions like anyone else—but I believe the vast majority realizes that if nothing has been done in eight years and the situation has deteriorated to unsustainable levels, it is highly unlikely they can achieve anything in just 48 hours. The downside of this new headache for the Government is that the people of Ceuta are effectively being left to fend for themselves. The Government itself prefers to shift the spotlight elsewhere and try to calm the waters regarding the housing issue—at least until the next problem arises, or until they manufacture one themselves to divert attention away from housing.
