Ayer desclasificaron algunos de los documentos del CNI sobre el asalto a Ceuta, y al parecer, la ministra de defensa tenía razón y si se avisó. Lo que no puedo entender es como el Gobierno desclasifica unos documentos que dicen lo contrario de la historia que nos estaban contando, y que sólo sus incondicionales se creía. Ahora ya, ni eso. Muchos de esos incondicionales empiezan a cuestionar el relato que han mantenido hasta ahora, y todos los socios del Gobierno también están en su contra. Me pregunto cual es el grado de ineptitud que te lleva a mostrar esos documentos, cuando el CNI no podía ni debía replicar tu historia, que ahora se demuestra que era falsa. Es cierto que los documentos no decían cuantos iban a entrar ni la hora y minuto exacto de la entrada, pero te decía el día y hablaba de entrada masiva. Quizás el día debió decirse en calendario juliano para evitar dudas y la palabra "masiva" se tenía que haber cambiado para evitar equivocaciones. "Masiva" y 180.000 apuntados a las redes puede llevarte a pensar en 180.000 más IVA. En fin, no voy a seguir dando argumentos, que seguro que alguien lee este post y lo comenta en las próximas declaraciones.

Yesterday, some CNI documents regarding the incursion into Ceuta were declassified, and it turns out the Defense Minister was right—there *had* been a warning. What I can't fathom is why the Government would declassify documents that contradict the story they had been telling—a story only their die-hard supporters believed. Now, even that support is wavering. Many of those loyalists are beginning to question the narrative maintained until now, and all the Government's coalition partners have turned against them, too. I wonder what level of ineptitude drives someone to reveal documents like that, especially when the CNI couldn't—and shouldn't—have contradicted the official story (which has now been proven false). True, the documents didn't specify exactly how many people would enter or the precise time of the crossing, but they did state the day and mention a "massive" influx. Perhaps the date should have been given in the Julian calendar to avoid confusion, and the word "massive" should have been changed to prevent misunderstandings. After all, "massive" combined with 180,000 people signed up on social networks might lead one to think of "180,000 plus VAT." Anyway, I won't go on listing arguments; surely someone will read this post and comment on it during their next public statement.

Ayer 2 de Septiembre, día de Ceuta, hubo un clamor popular en todas las manifestaciones que se celebraron en nuestro país. La gente de Ceuta necesita una solución inmediata. El Gobierno tiene que ponerse manos a la obra para buscar soluciones y no agravar el problema, aunque claro, ahora están en plena guerra interna sobre si hubo o no informes, sobre lo fiable que es nuestro vecino, etc. Por lo que parece informes hubo, pero claro para tener conocimiento de lo que pone en ellos hay que saber leer, y con el nivel que tienen algunos empiezo a sospechar que quizás no es así. Si me gustaría aclarar que el dibujo es una broma, no vaya a ser que lo vea algún ministro, se le encienda la bombilla y quiera poner mi idea en marcha.

Yesterday, September 2nd, Ceuta Day, there was a resounding public outcry in all the demonstrations held across the country. The people of Ceuta need an immediate solution. Un mes desde que Ceuta ha perdido su normalidad. Pero claro, es  que hay que ser muy malvado para invadirnos en plenas vacaciones. Desde entonces hemos podido ver como varios ministros se han paseado, como si fuera la "Minister fashion week", sin hablar con la gente, sin mirarles a los ojos, y sin darles ninguna solución. Sólo hay una excepción, que al menos habló con ellos, y aguanto el chaparrón, pero sin dar soluciones. Entiendo que la solución no es sencilla, y que los calentones de los ciudadanos no ayudan, pero cuando no se ve hacer nada, es lógico que los haya, y que la gente se manifieste. La solución del mando único no sé si aporta, pero mantenerlo, al menos, hasta final de año, no da tranquilidad a las personas que viven en esa ciudad.

Ya han pasado 20 días de la crisis en Ceuta, y todo sigue igual. Las imágenes que nos llegan y las noticias que leemos están muy lejos de la normalidad que nos quiere hacer creer el Gobierno. Que entiendo que está enterado de la situación por lo que le cuentan, porque en una situación como esta, deberían estar allí todos, y no de vacaciones. Es lo que haría cualquier persona responsable de cualquier empresa ante una crisis, ponerse al frente y en primera línea, hasta que se resuelva. Entiendo que una crisis como esta desborda a cualquiera, pero al menos hay que tener la moralidad suficiente para hacer lo imposible por arreglarlo y no estar de fiesta en el eclipse o de vacaciones. Espero, aunque no confío, que la situación se resuelva lo antes posible, y que los ceutís puedan disfrutar de su ciudad. Fuerza y ánimo.

Twenty days have passed since the crisis began in Ceuta, and everything remains the same. The images we see and the news we read are far removed from the normality the government wants us to believe. I understand they are aware of the situation from what they are told, because in a situation like this, everyone should be there, not on vacation. Ayer 12 de Agosto fue el día del eclipse, el día que llevábamos esperando desde hacia semanas. Todo el mundo con sus gafas preparadas, menos algunos rezagados que tuvieron que buscarlas debajo de las piedras porque estaban agotadas, yo entre ellos. Aunque al final las conseguí. Me pareció un momento mágico, que no te imaginas hasta que no lo ves. Creo que es algo espectacular que hemos tenido la suerte de poder ver, y que repetiremos en los próximos años. Recuerdo cuando éramos niños y mirábamos al sol con una radiografía o una película de carrete, o una diapositiva. No entiendo como no hemos tenido más problemas de visión. Ahora, afortunadamente, todo está más controlado y podemos evitar males mayores. Aunque es recomendable quitarse las gafas después del eclipse, porque si no lo haces, no verás nada fuera de lo común en Ceuta, no verás los casos de corrupción, etc... Y es que como dice el refrán, no hay peor ciego que el que no quiere ver.

Yesterday, August 12th, was the day of the eclipse, the day we'd been waiting for for weeks.  Ya estamos en Agosto, el mes de vacaciones por excelencia. Aunque este año hay gente que no puede irse de vacaciones. Unos porque no se lo pueden permitir, otros porque lo han perdido todo en los incendios que han asolado España, y otros porque su ciudad ha sido invadida. Pero sigue habiendo muchos que disfrutarán de unos días de descanso,  comiendo bien, y no como los militares de Ceuta, y teniendo todo el mar para ellos con una zona de exclusión que ya les gustarías a los ceutíes. Sirva este dibujo como un homenaje a todos ellos y a los que cuidado del orden en la ciudad.

Estos últimos días hemos sufrido la mayor ola de incendios que podamos recordar. La superficie quemada nos dice que si no ponemos remedio, la realidad superará a la ficción de mi dibujo. No es un dibujo nuevo, pero quería volver a publicarlo como un recordatorio de lo que nos puede ocurrir. En momentos como este siempre aparece la solidaridad de empresas y gente de a pie que quiere ayudar, de voluntarios que ayudan en el fuego y de instituciones que intentar unir esfuerzos. Lo malo es que cuando el fuego se controla, las instituciones vuelven a la normalidad y ya sólo piensan en sí mismos, y ver si pueden hundir al opositor. Si no hacemos algo, nos quedamos sin bosques, y eso debe hacerse antes de que llegue el fuego.

These past few days we've suffered the worst wave of wildfires in living memory. The burned area tells us that if we don't take action, reality will surpass the fiction of my drawing. It's not a new drawing, but I wanted to republish it as a reminder of what could happen to us. In times like these, solidarity always emerges from businesses and ordinary people who want to help, from volunteers who assist in fighting the fires, and from institutions that try to join forces. The problem is that once the fire is under control, the institutions return to normal and only think about themselves, and how they can bring down their opponents. If we don't do something, we'll be left without forests, and that action must be taken before the fire arrives.

A los que nos gusta nadar, preferimos que el agua está más fresquita. Para tandas largas alrededor de 24 grados, a ser posible. Entiendo que a los niños y algunos mayores (entre los cuales no me identifico), esta temperatura les pueda agradar, porque pueden estar horas en el agua sin salir tiritando. 

Claramente para el medio ambiente no es bueno. Las plantas marinas se mueren, los peces se irán a otras aguas más frías, y otras especies aparecerán. Habrá más medusas. Cambia el ecosistema. Y eso sin contar las tormentas o las DANAs que llegarán. No sé si se podrá revertir en algún momento, pero hasta entonces intentaré seguir nadando sin neopreno de amianto.

 Those of us who enjoy swimming prefer cooler water. For longer sessions, around 24 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit), if possible. I understand that children and some older people (among whom I don't count myself) might find this temperature pleasant, as they can stay in the water for hours without getting shivering.

Clearly, this isn't good for the environment. Marine plants die, fish migrate to cooler waters, and new species appear. There will be more jellyfish. The ecosystem changes. And that's without even considering the storms or DANAs (isolated depressions at high levels) that will inevitably arrive. I don't know if this can ever be reversed, but until then, I'll try to keep swimming without an asbestos wetsuit.

I admit I'm not much of a football fan, but I've watched a few matches this year. And I'll watch the final. This World Cup hasn't been without its political undertones, like the infamous red card that Trump managed to get overturned with the help of his friend Infantino, but that hasn't managed to tarnish the pride and satisfaction of millions of fans worldwide. Hay personas que tienen una capacidad innata para decir una cosa y la contraria casi en la misma frase, o en pocos minutos. Dan bandazos de opinión, según les mueva el aire su flequillo. Tranquilizan o asustan según su bipolaridad aparezca. Pero claro, eso tiene un problema para ellos, y es que nadie se fía de lo que dice, porque saben que en un rato, o al día siguiente dirá lo contrario, según sus intereses. Creo que es una habilidad que tienen los que se dedican a la política, independientemente de su nacionalidad, así que tampoco tenemos que irnos tan lejos.

Some people have an innate ability to say one thing and its opposite almost in the same sentence, or within minutes. They swing wildly in their opinions, depending on the breeze. They can be reassuring or frightening depending on when their bipolarity flares. Gracias a las acciones divulgativas del Gobierno, ya sé lo que significan las siglas de la SEPI, y también sé a que se dedican, mejor dicho, a qué deberían dedicarse. También conozco el significado de las siglas UCO y UDEF. Espero que este cursillo acelerado de conocimiento de las instituciones españolas pueda continuar en el futuro, porque creo que es una forma sencilla de que los españoles de a pie nos sintamos más integrados con nuestros gobernantes.

Thanks to the government's outreach efforts, I now know what the acronym SEPI stands for, and I also know what they do—or rather, what they should be doing. Uno ya tiene su edad, y cuando comparo la clase política de hace 40 años, y la que tenemos ahora, pienso en que momento esto se empezó a torcer. Ayer en el Congreso nos decían que mejor quedarnos como estamos, porque son los menos malos, como si el resto fuera el hombre del saco, y nosotros unos niños que nos vamos a asustar. Sinceramente, el coeficiente intelectual de estos políticos debería medirse con decimales. Lo que vienen a decirnos en lenguaje claro es que los menos malos son los mediocres, porque buenos no hay. Cuando vayamos a votar la próxima vez, quizás no debamos distinguir por este parámetro de mediocreidad, simplemente tendremos que votar a aquellos que nos vayan a robar menos.

I'm getting on in years, and when I compare the political class of 40 years ago with the one we have now, I wonder when things started going downhill. Yesterday in Congress, they were telling us it's better to stay as we are because they're the lesser of two evils, as if the rest were the boogeyman and we were just children who would be scared. Frankly, the IQ of these politicians should be measured in decimals. What they're telling us, in plain language, is that the lesser evils are the mediocre ones, because there aren't any good ones. When we go to vote next time, perhaps we shouldn't distinguish by this parameter of mediocrity; we should simply vote for those who will steal from us the least.

A los ciudadanos de a pie, si nos regalan unas sartenes en el banco, tenemos que declararlo. Sin embargo, cuando los regalos, y no precisamente sartenes, se hace a los ciudadanos de cierta clase social, algunos de ellos se los quedan. Cuando inviertes tu dinero, y te da una rentabilidad, la declaras, pero estos otros ciudadanos cuando invierten nuestro dinero, parece ser que también les da una "rentabilidad", que se les olvida declarar. Y aquí no hablo de colores, porque los podemos encontrar en todos los bandos cromáticos. Cuando luego nos dicen que la justicia es igual para todos, me entra flato de tanto reírme.

Este fin de semana recibimos la visita del Papa. Un evento que va a congregar a mucha gente, y que junto a Bad Bunny y las elecciones del Real Madrid, van a colapsar la capital durante unos días. Según comentan, la publicidad de la ciudad que va a verse en todo el mundo, rentabiliza sobradamente unos días de caos circulatorios. Al parecer, no es casual que venga este fin de semana. Según fuentes fidedignas, va a aprovechar para ir a votar en las elecciones al Real Madrid, del cual es socio. No mucha gente lo sabe, pero no os habéis preguntado ¿por qué siempre va de blanco?

Ayer volvíamos a ver en televisión un nuevo registro, perdón quise decir requerimiento, por otro presunto caso de corrupción. La corrupción no entiende de ideologías, es un virus que ataca a todos por igual, sean de una lado o de otro. Lo bueno de este virus es que es estacional, como la gripe en invierno o la gastroenteritis en verano. Lo malo de este virus es que su estacionalidad dura 4 años habitualmente, y se renueva constantemente. Quizás, para evitar su propagación, habría que pensar en una cuarentena de 4 años de duración, porque el periodo de incubación suele rondar entre 15 días y 48 meses, así nos quedaríamos más tranquilos.

Yesterday we saw on television yet another arrest warrant—I mean, a summons—for another alleged case of corruption. Corruption knows no ideology; it's a virus that attacks everyone equally, regardless of their political affiliation. The good thing about this virus is that it's seasonal, like the flu in winter or gastroenteritis in summer. The bad thing about this virus is that its seasonality typically lasts four years, and it constantly renews itself. Perhaps, to prevent its spread, we should consider a four-year quarantine, because the incubation period usually ranges from 15 days to 48 months; that would give us greater peace of mind.

Hoy quería poner este dibujo sobre la IA, que hice hará un par de años. Toda una eternidad en este tema. Hoy cuando abro Linkedin, una gran parte de los artículos que me aparecen, hablan sobre la IA, sus comandos, sus diferentes modelos, sus diferentes versiones, etc. Es un filón informativo lleno de atajos, de ideas, de descubrimientos. Quizás dentro de dos años hayamos dejado de escribir, incluso de dibujar, y será la IA o la AI, la que se encargue de crear nuestros artículos, incluso puede que los firme con su nombre. Lo iremos viendo. No voy a decir que éste sea el último dibujo de la serie sobre la IA, pero de momento haré un paréntesis, dado que hay más temas sobre los que escribir, ..., mientras podamos.

These days, when I open LinkedIn, a large portion of the articles that pop up are about AI: its commands, its different models, its different versions, and so on. Hoy quería hablar de la IA en los coches, y de las ADAS, las ayudas a la conducción. A mí más que "HADAS", me parecen "BRUJAS". No digo que no sean positivas, y que te avisen de los posibles peligros que puedan ocurrir, pero que estén pitando todo el rato, la verdad es que no ayudan mucho, y ponen nervioso. Si tengo que dar un volantazo para esquivar un bache, el coche me corrige y me mueve el volante para que me coma el bache. Digo yo, que algo podré decidir. Si me adelantan por la izquierda, si es por la derecha también. Si me acerco a un coche para adelantarle, me pita. Como se te olvide desactivar los más molestos antes de salir de viaje, tienes que parar para quitarlos. Si llevas a alguien que quiere echar una cabezadita, acaba con TOC de tanto pitido, como acabó Encarna con las empanadillas de Móstoles. Por favor, menos pitidos. Al menos esta es mi opinión personal.

Today I wanted to talk about AI in cars and ADAS, the driver assistance systems. To me, they're more like "witches" than "fairies." I'm not saying they aren't positive, and that they warn you of potential hazards, but the constant beeping isn't very helpful and it's nerve-wracking. If I have to swerve to avoid a pothole, the car corrects me and moves the steering wheel so I hit the pothole. I mean, I should be able to make some decisions. It beeps if someone passes me on the left, and even if they're passing me on the right. If I approach another car to overtake, it beeps. If you forget to deactivate the most annoying ones before setting off on a trip, you have to stop to turn them off. If you have someone who wants to take a nap, they end up with OCD from all the beeping, like Encarna did with the empanadas from Móstoles. Please, less beeping. At least that's my personal opinion.

Hoy quería hablar de las capacidades de la IA para la traducción de textos o traducción simultanea. Hay que decir que es una maravilla y que nos facilita la vida  cuando estamos en otro país donde no conocemos el idioma, o nos queremos comunicar con alguien que no habla el nuestro. Como anécdota contaré el caso de una tía mía, que tiene más de 70 años, "hablando" con otra persona de su edad, a través del móvil, porque hablaban idiomas diferentes. La otra persona también es un familiar indirecto. Sin embargo sigo viendo este sistema muy frío cuando tienes una reunión de negocios o un encuentro internacional entre varios estados. En esos casos creo que tener un traductor, o sobre todo, conocer el idioma del otro es un punto de acercamiento. Además los giros idiomáticos, los diferentes acentos, o la mezcla de dialectos, podrían complicar la situación. Por eso la frase del dibujo de hoy ...

Today I wanted to talk about AI's capabilities for text translation or simultaneous translation. It's truly wonderful and makes our lives much easier when we're in another country where we don't know the language, or when we want to communicate with someone who doesn't speak ours. As an anecdote, I'll share the story of my aunt, who's over 70, "talking" to someone her age via mobile phone because they spoke different languages. The other person is also a distant relative. However, I still find this system rather impersonal when you have a business meeting or an international gathering between several countries. In those situations, I think having a translator, or above all, knowing the other person's language, is a way to bridge the gap. Furthermore, idiomatic expressions, different accents, or a mix of dialects could complicate the situation. That's why the phrase in today's drawing...

Hoy he querido añadir a la serie de dibujos sobre la IA, uno que hice hace 3 años. Creo que fue el primero en el que hablaba de este tema. Por aquel entonces oíamos hablar por primera vez de ChatGPT, que salió a finales de 2022, y que llevo esta tecnología a los ciudadanos de a pie. Parece que fue hace mucho más tiempo, pero no es así. Es cierto que desde entonces han salido muchos modelos de IA, muchas versiones de cada modelo y parece mentira que esto haya ocurrido tan sólo en los últimos 3 años. Imaginemos como será esta tecnología cuando pasen otros 3 ...

Today I wanted to add to my series of drawings about AI one that I did three years ago. I think it was the first one where I addressed this topic. Back then, we were just hearing about ChatGPT, which came out at the end of 2022 and brought this technology to everyday people. It seems like a long time ago, but it wasn't. It's true that since then, many AI models have been released, many versions of each model, and it's incredible that this has all happened in just the last three years. Imagine what this technology will be like in another three years...
