Ceuta sigue igual o peor. El Gobierno, según dice, haciendo todo lo posible para que la situación mejore, pero más bien parece lo contrario. Abrimos centros para 2000 personas, y aparecen otros 2000. Es como quitar el agua del mar con un cubo.

Vivimos en un país que es capaz de dejar en la calle a una anciana de 87 años que a vivido toda su vida en la misma casa, pero damos cobijo y comida a miles de ilegales que han asaltado nuestras fronteras. Vivimos en un país donde mandamos a los antidisturbios para que carguen contra unos manifestantes que intentan evitar el desahucio de esa persona, pero no los mandamos a defender nuestra frontera de la entrada ilegal de miles de invasores. Y lo peor es que lo vemos en la tele y nos parece de lo más normal. Ya no nos inmuta nada. Vemos normal que se defiendan los derechos de los ilegales, y que se les quite a los que han vivido toda su vida en Ceuta o en esa casa de Madrid donde vivía Mari Carmen

The situation in Ceuta remains the same or has worsened. The Government claims to be doing everything possible to improve matters, yet the reality seems quite the opposite. We open centers for 2,000 people, and another 2,000 show up. It is like trying to bail out the ocean with a bucket.

We live in a country capable of leaving an 87-year-old woman—who has lived in the same home her entire life—out on the street, while providing food and shelter to thousands of illegal migrants who have stormed our borders. We live in a country where we deploy riot police to charge at protesters trying to prevent such an eviction, yet we do not send them to defend our border against the illegal entry of thousands of invaders. Worst of all, we watch this on TV and treat it as perfectly normal. Nothing shocks us anymore. We accept it as normal to defend the rights of illegal migrants while taking things away from those who have lived their whole lives in Ceuta, or in that Madrid home where Mari Carmen used to live.

El problema de Ceuta parece que empieza a enquistarse, y no se ven soluciones claras. Entiendo que debe ser muy difícil lidia con crisis como estas, pero al menos hay que intentarlo, y que parezca que se hace algo. Pero a día de hoy lo único que parece que se está haciendo es abandonarles a su suerte. Es cierto que el Gobierno ha dado todas las explicaciones, tal y como ellos argumentan. Y es cierto, han dado todas, primero unas y luego las contrarias. Claramente la caída en el índice PISA se nota y mucho. En Lengua, no supieron interpretar los informes que recibieron, en Matemáticas no han sabido contar cuantos ilegales hay en Ceuta, y en Ciencia, que vamos a decir, si no tienen conCiencia. Mucho ánimo a los Ceutís.

The problem in Ceuta seems to be becoming entrenched, with no clear solutions in sight. I realize it must be very difficult to deal with crises like this, but at least an attempt must be made—and it needs to look like something is actually being done. Yet, as things stand, the only apparent course of action is leaving them to fend for themselves. It is true that the Government has provided every explanation—just as they claim. And indeed, they have provided *every* explanation: first one set, and then the exact opposite. The drop in PISA scores is clearly evident—and significantly so. In Language, they failed to interpret the reports they received; in Math, they couldn't manage to count how many undocumented migrants are in Ceuta; and as for Science—well, what is there to say? They clearly lack a conScience. Best wishes to the people of Ceuta.

Ayer desclasificaron algunos de los documentos del CNI sobre el asalto a Ceuta, y al parecer, la ministra de defensa tenía razón y si se avisó. Lo que no puedo entender es como el Gobierno desclasifica unos documentos que dicen lo contrario de la historia que nos estaban contando, y que sólo sus incondicionales se creía. Ahora ya, ni eso. Muchos de esos incondicionales empiezan a cuestionar el relato que han mantenido hasta ahora, y todos los socios del Gobierno también están en su contra. Me pregunto cual es el grado de ineptitud que te lleva a mostrar esos documentos, cuando el CNI no podía ni debía replicar tu historia, que ahora se demuestra que era falsa. Es cierto que los documentos no decían cuantos iban a entrar ni la hora y minuto exacto de la entrada, pero te decía el día y hablaba de entrada masiva. Quizás el día debió decirse en calendario juliano para evitar dudas y la palabra "masiva" se tenía que haber cambiado para evitar equivocaciones. "Masiva" y 180.000 apuntados a las redes puede llevarte a pensar en 180.000 más IVA. En fin, no voy a seguir dando argumentos, que seguro que alguien lee este post y lo comenta en las próximas declaraciones.

Yesterday, some CNI documents regarding the incursion into Ceuta were declassified, and it turns out the Defense Minister was right—there *had* been a warning. What I can't fathom is why the Government would declassify documents that contradict the story they had been telling—a story only their die-hard supporters believed. Now, even that support is wavering. Many of those loyalists are beginning to question the narrative maintained until now, and all the Government's coalition partners have turned against them, too. I wonder what level of ineptitude drives someone to reveal documents like that, especially when the CNI couldn't—and shouldn't—have contradicted the official story (which has now been proven false). True, the documents didn't specify exactly how many people would enter or the precise time of the crossing, but they did state the day and mention a "massive" influx. Perhaps the date should have been given in the Julian calendar to avoid confusion, and the word "massive" should have been changed to prevent misunderstandings. After all, "massive" combined with 180,000 people signed up on social networks might lead one to think of "180,000 plus VAT." Anyway, I won't go on listing arguments; surely someone will read this post and comment on it during their next public statement.

Ayer 2 de Septiembre, día de Ceuta, hubo un clamor popular en todas las manifestaciones que se celebraron en nuestro país. La gente de Ceuta necesita una solución inmediata. El Gobierno tiene que ponerse manos a la obra para buscar soluciones y no agravar el problema, aunque claro, ahora están en plena guerra interna sobre si hubo o no informes, sobre lo fiable que es nuestro vecino, etc. Por lo que parece informes hubo, pero claro para tener conocimiento de lo que pone en ellos hay que saber leer, y con el nivel que tienen algunos empiezo a sospechar que quizás no es así. Si me gustaría aclarar que el dibujo es una broma, no vaya a ser que lo vea algún ministro, se le encienda la bombilla y quiera poner mi idea en marcha.

Yesterday, September 2nd, Ceuta Day, there was a resounding public outcry in all the demonstrations held across the country. The people of Ceuta need an immediate solution. The government must get to work to find solutions and not exacerbate the problem, although, of course, they are currently embroiled in an internal power struggle over whether or not there were reports, how reliable our neighbor is, and so on. Apparently, there were reports, but of course, to understand what they say, one must be able to read, and given the level that some of them have, I'm beginning to suspect that perhaps this isn't the case. I would like to clarify that the drawing is a joke, lest some minister see it, have a lightbulb moment, and want to implement my idea.

Un mes desde que Ceuta ha perdido su normalidad. Pero claro, es  que hay que ser muy malvado para invadirnos en plenas vacaciones. Desde entonces hemos podido ver como varios ministros se han paseado, como si fuera la "Minister fashion week", sin hablar con la gente, sin mirarles a los ojos, y sin darles ninguna solución. Sólo hay una excepción, que al menos habló con ellos, y aguanto el chaparrón, pero sin dar soluciones. Entiendo que la solución no es sencilla, y que los calentones de los ciudadanos no ayudan, pero cuando no se ve hacer nada, es lógico que los haya, y que la gente se manifieste. La solución del mando único no sé si aporta, pero mantenerlo, al menos, hasta final de año, no da tranquilidad a las personas que viven en esa ciudad.

It's been a month since Ceuta lost its normality. But of course, you have to be truly wicked to invade us right in the middle of the holidays. Since then, we've seen several ministers parading around, as if it were "Minister Fashion Week," without speaking to the people, without looking them in the eye, and without offering any solutions. There's only one exception, who at least spoke with them and weathered the storm, but without offering any solutions. I understand that the solution isn't simple, and that the citizens' anger doesn't help, but when nothing seems to be done, it's understandable that there's anger and that people are protesting. I don't know if the solution of centralized command will help, but maintaining it, at least until the end of the year, doesn't bring any peace of mind to the people who live in that city.

Estos últimos días hemos sufrido la mayor ola de incendios que podamos recordar. La superficie quemada nos dice que si no ponemos remedio, la realidad superará a la ficción de mi dibujo. No es un dibujo nuevo, pero quería volver a publicarlo como un recordatorio de lo que nos puede ocurrir. En momentos como este siempre aparece la solidaridad de empresas y gente de a pie que quiere ayudar, de voluntarios que ayudan en el fuego y de instituciones que intentar unir esfuerzos. Lo malo es que cuando el fuego se controla, las instituciones vuelven a la normalidad y ya sólo piensan en sí mismos, y ver si pueden hundir al opositor. Si no hacemos algo, nos quedamos sin bosques, y eso debe hacerse antes de que llegue el fuego.

These past few days we've suffered the worst wave of wildfires in living memory. The burned area tells us that if we don't take action, reality will surpass the fiction of my drawing. It's not a new drawing, but I wanted to republish it as a reminder of what could happen to us. In times like these, solidarity always emerges from businesses and ordinary people who want to help, from volunteers who assist in fighting the fires, and from institutions that try to join forces. The problem is that once the fire is under control, the institutions return to normal and only think about themselves, and how they can bring down their opponents. If we don't do something, we'll be left without forests, and that action must be taken before the fire arrives.

Hay personas que tienen una capacidad innata para decir una cosa y la contraria casi en la misma frase, o en pocos minutos. Dan bandazos de opinión, según les mueva el aire su flequillo. Tranquilizan o asustan según su bipolaridad aparezca. Pero claro, eso tiene un problema para ellos, y es que nadie se fía de lo que dice, porque saben que en un rato, o al día siguiente dirá lo contrario, según sus intereses. Creo que es una habilidad que tienen los que se dedican a la política, independientemente de su nacionalidad, así que tampoco tenemos que irnos tan lejos.

Some people have an innate ability to say one thing and its opposite almost in the same sentence, or within minutes. They swing wildly in their opinions, depending on the breeze. They can be reassuring or frightening depending on when their bipolarity flares. But of course, this presents a problem for them: nobody trusts what they say, because they know that in a little while, or the next day, they'll say the opposite, depending on their own interests. I think it's a skill that those involved in politics possess, regardless of their nationality, so we don't have to look that far afield.

Gracias a las acciones divulgativas del Gobierno, ya sé lo que significan las siglas de la SEPI, y también sé a que se dedican, mejor dicho, a qué deberían dedicarse. También conozco el significado de las siglas UCO y UDEF. Espero que este cursillo acelerado de conocimiento de las instituciones españolas pueda continuar en el futuro, porque creo que es una forma sencilla de que los españoles de a pie nos sintamos más integrados con nuestros gobernantes.

Thanks to the government's outreach efforts, I now know what the acronym SEPI stands for, and I also know what they do—or rather, what they should be doing. I also know the meaning of the acronyms UCO and UDEF. I hope this crash course in understanding Spanish institutions can continue in the future, because I believe it's a simple way for ordinary Spaniards to feel more connected to our leaders.

Uno ya tiene su edad, y cuando comparo la clase política de hace 40 años, y la que tenemos ahora, pienso en que momento esto se empezó a torcer. Ayer en el Congreso nos decían que mejor quedarnos como estamos, porque son los menos malos, como si el resto fuera el hombre del saco, y nosotros unos niños que nos vamos a asustar. Sinceramente, el coeficiente intelectual de estos políticos debería medirse con decimales. Lo que vienen a decirnos en lenguaje claro es que los menos malos son los mediocres, porque buenos no hay. Cuando vayamos a votar la próxima vez, quizás no debamos distinguir por este parámetro de mediocreidad, simplemente tendremos que votar a aquellos que nos vayan a robar menos.

I'm getting on in years, and when I compare the political class of 40 years ago with the one we have now, I wonder when things started going downhill. Yesterday in Congress, they were telling us it's better to stay as we are because they're the lesser of two evils, as if the rest were the boogeyman and we were just children who would be scared. Frankly, the IQ of these politicians should be measured in decimals. What they're telling us, in plain language, is that the lesser evils are the mediocre ones, because there aren't any good ones. When we go to vote next time, perhaps we shouldn't distinguish by this parameter of mediocrity; we should simply vote for those who will steal from us the least.

A los ciudadanos de a pie, si nos regalan unas sartenes en el banco, tenemos que declararlo. Sin embargo, cuando los regalos, y no precisamente sartenes, se hace a los ciudadanos de cierta clase social, algunos de ellos se los quedan. Cuando inviertes tu dinero, y te da una rentabilidad, la declaras, pero estos otros ciudadanos cuando invierten nuestro dinero, parece ser que también les da una "rentabilidad", que se les olvida declarar. Y aquí no hablo de colores, porque los podemos encontrar en todos los bandos cromáticos. Cuando luego nos dicen que la justicia es igual para todos, me entra flato de tanto reírme.

Ordinary citizens, if we're given a set of frying pans by the bank, we have to declare it. However, when gifts—and not just frying pans—are given to members of a certain social class, some of them keep them for themselves. When you invest your money and it earns a return, you declare it, but these other people, when they invest our money, apparently also get a "return" that they forget to declare. And I'm not talking about political affiliations here, because we can find them on every side of the political spectrum. When they then tell us that justice is equal for everyone, I laugh so hard I could pass gas.

Esta semana se ha producido un encuentro inesperado. El Papa, dentro de su visita a España, se ha reunido con Bad Bunny, que también estaba de gira por España. Un encuentro entre dos personas públicas, muy conocidas, muy diferentes, pero que pueden conversar y querían conocerse. Ambos han llenado estadios, ambos tienen millones de seguidores, y sin embargo, uno no iría a los conciertos del otro, ni el otro iría a las misas del uno, pero se respetan, y eso es la base. Ambos son idolatrados por unos, denostados por otros, indiferentes para el resto, pero no por eso tienen que perder el respeto hacia los que piensan diferente. No tiene nada que ver con la música, aunque siempre ayuda, si no con la convivencia. Si fuera por la música, votaría por poner hilo musical en el Congreso.

This week, an unexpected encounter took place. The Pope, during his visit to Spain, met with Bad Bunny, who was also touring the country. It was a meeting between two very well-known, very different public figures who could talk and wanted to meet. Both have filled stadiums, both have millions of followers, and yet, one wouldn't go to the other's concerts, nor would the other attend the other's masses, but they respect each other, and that's the foundation. Both are idolized by some, reviled by others, and ignored by the rest, but that doesn't mean they should lose respect for those who think differently. It has nothing to do with music, although that always helps, but rather with coexistence. If it were about music, I'd vote for background music in Congress.

Este fin de semana recibimos la visita del Papa. Un evento que va a congregar a mucha gente, y que junto a Bad Bunny y las elecciones del Real Madrid, van a colapsar la capital durante unos días. Según comentan, la publicidad de la ciudad que va a verse en todo el mundo, rentabiliza sobradamente unos días de caos circulatorios. Al parecer, no es casual que venga este fin de semana. Según fuentes fidedignas, va a aprovechar para ir a votar en las elecciones al Real Madrid, del cual es socio. No mucha gente lo sabe, pero no os habéis preguntado ¿por qué siempre va de blanco?

This weekend we're hosting the Pope. It's an event that will draw huge crowds, and along with Bad Bunny and the Real Madrid elections, it's going to bring the capital to a standstill for a few days. Apparently, the worldwide exposure the city will receive will more than compensate for a few days of traffic chaos. It seems his visit this weekend isn't a coincidence. According to reliable sources, he's going to take the opportunity to vote in the Real Madrid elections, of which he's a member. Not many people know this, but have you ever wondered why he always wears white?

Ayer volvíamos a ver en televisión un nuevo registro, perdón quise decir requerimiento, por otro presunto caso de corrupción. La corrupción no entiende de ideologías, es un virus que ataca a todos por igual, sean de una lado o de otro. Lo bueno de este virus es que es estacional, como la gripe en invierno o la gastroenteritis en verano. Lo malo de este virus es que su estacionalidad dura 4 años habitualmente, y se renueva constantemente. Quizás, para evitar su propagación, habría que pensar en una cuarentena de 4 años de duración, porque el periodo de incubación suele rondar entre 15 días y 48 meses, así nos quedaríamos más tranquilos.

Yesterday we saw on television yet another arrest warrant—I mean, a summons—for another alleged case of corruption. Corruption knows no ideology; it's a virus that attacks everyone equally, regardless of their political affiliation. The good thing about this virus is that it's seasonal, like the flu in winter or gastroenteritis in summer. The bad thing about this virus is that its seasonality typically lasts four years, and it constantly renews itself. Perhaps, to prevent its spread, we should consider a four-year quarantine, because the incubation period usually ranges from 15 days to 48 months; that would give us greater peace of mind.

Hoy estudiamos informática. Un homenaje a las personas, que como yo, nos dedicamos a complicar la vida de los usuarios, pero de algo hay que vivir. Es un escalón menos que la profesión de los políticos, que están para vivir a nuestra costa. Quizás los informáticos seamos rémoras, pero los políticos son directamente parásitos.

Today we're studying computer science. A tribute to those of us who, like me, dedicate ourselves to complicating users' lives, but we have to make a living somehow. It's one step below the profession of politicians, who are there to live off us. Perhaps computer scientists are a burden, but politicians are downright parasites.

Hoy estudiamos "sintaxis", esa parte de la gramática que nos enseña los principios, las relaciones y las reglas. Una pena que no enseñen sintaxis política, para que nuestros dirigentes mejoren sus principios (que si no nos gustan, tienen otros), sus relaciones (para que el trato entre partidos diferentes, al menos sea con educación), y las reglas (para que no se las salten a su conveniencia). Ciertamente creo que sería una buena asignatura para los estudiantes de ciencias políticas.

Today we study "syntax," that part of grammar that teaches us principles, relationships, and rules. It's a shame they don't teach political syntax, so that our leaders can improve their principles (if we don't like them, they have others), their relationships (so that dealings between different parties are at least civil), and the rules (so that they don't flout them at their convenience). I certainly think it would be a good subject for political science students.

Estamos acostumbraos a ver en las películas, como los malos acaban cantando, pero eso es en las películas. En la vida real les cuesta un poco más, porque tienen miedo de cantar mal, por eso esta iniciativa del Ministerio del Interior, me parece fabulosa, para poder convertir ese día, en todo un éxito.

We're used to seeing in movies how the bad guys end up singing, but that's in the movies. In real life, it's a little harder for them because they're afraid of singing badly. That's why I think this initiative by the Ministry of the Interior is fantastic, to make that day a success.

Nos esperan unas semanas o meses muy entretenidos, en relación al caso Aldama/Ábalos/Koldo/Cerdán/y los que vengan. Esto no es nuevo, ni siquiera mis dibujos. Creo recordar, aunque no lo he encontrado, que ya hice otro dibujo hace años, sobre Soto del Relax. Al final no importa quién gobierne, siempre hay alguien que aprovecha esa oportunidad, para hacer caja. Ahora cuando veamos obras públicas, pensaremos en el "pico" del presupuesto.

We have a few very entertaining weeks or months ahead of us, in relation to the Aldama/Ábalos/Koldo/Cerdán case and whatever else may come. This isn't new, nor are my drawings. I seem to remember, although I haven't found it, that I already made another drawing years ago, about Soto del Relax. In the end, it doesn't matter who governs; there's always someone who takes advantage of that opportunity to cash in. Now, when we see public works, we'll think about the "extra" of the budget.

La confianza, es algo que en la vida normal, si se pierde, no se recupera, pero en la vida política tiene un precio, así que recuperarla es factible e incluso me atrevería a decir que sencillo. Ese precio, al final, lo pagaremos los de siempre, para que los otros de siempre, sigan en sus puestos.

Trust is something that, in normal life, if lost, cannot be regained, but in political life it comes at a price, so regaining it is feasible, and I'd even go so far as to say simple. That price, in the end, will be paid by the same people as always, so that the other same people as always can remain in their positions.
